Human Symbiotic Systems Laboratory
People and AI.
A relationship beyond interaction.
Exchange words. Understand feelings. Live together.
Through encounters between people, agents, and robots,
we explore new ways of living together.

Thinking about technology
through human relationships.
As AI becomes part of everyday life,
how it relates to people matters.
The Human Symbiotic Systems Laboratory studies agents and robots that interact flexibly with people of diverse personalities. Through dialogue, trust, and sociality, we explore a world in which people and intelligent systems live together.

PROFESSOR / MESSAGE
AI that adapts
to the diversity of people.
Professor, Information Technology Course, Department of Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Tokyo Polytechnic University
Daisuke Katagami / Ph.D. in Engineering
As agents and robots enter our living spaces, new forms of interaction between people and AI are emerging. The way we design these relationships shapes how we can live together.
Our research aims to enable autonomous agents and robots to live alongside people of diverse personalities and interact with them flexibly.
Profile and research activities ↗02 / RESEARCH
Many approaches.
One pursuit: living together.
MOBILITY & TRUST
A trusted companion on the road.
Through dialogue with driving support agents, we explore safer driving and lasting relationships.
Driving support agents ↗DIALOGUE & CARE
Dialogue that supports daily life.
We design supportive interactions through natural dialogue systems and dementia care training.
Dialogue and everyday support ↗SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE
Social intelligence beyond words.
Through AIWolf and human–agent interaction, we investigate how interactions create persuasion, cooperation, and trust.
AIWolf and HAI ↗We also explore human–system symbiosis through mood engineering, information visualization, and other perspectives.
